Prof. Yasuhiko Arakawa, Director of Quantum Innovation Co-Creation Center, will be awarded the 2019 IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal. This medal was established in 2002 as one of the IEEE Medals, named after the late former Tohoku University President Jun-ichi Nishizawa, and is awarded for outstanding contributions to materials and device science and technology. The reason for this award is “For contribution to the development and commercialization of quantum dot lasers”. Professor Arakawa will receive the award together with Professor Pallab Bhattacharya of the University of Michigan and Professor Dieter Bimberg of the Technical University of Berlin. The award presentation ceremony will be held at the 2019 IEEE VIC (Vision, Innovation, and Challenges) Summit and Honors Ceremony in San Diego on May 17, 2019.
