The public symposium “36 Years since the Birth of Quantum Dots” was successfully held by NanoQuine at Tokyo Garden Palace in Ochanomizu, Tokyo on 5th November. After opening remarks by Prof. Kazuhiko Hirakawa, Director of NanoQuine, distinguished researchers from abroad gave lectures on the significance of quantum dot lasers. In the latter part of the symposium, Nobel Laureate in Physics, Dr. Leo Esaki, President of the Science and Technology Promotion Foundation of Ibaraki, gave a special lecture, and Specially Appointed Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa gave a keynote speech entitled “Progress in Quantum Dot Research – Past, Present and Future”. The hall was filled with about 180 participants who listened attentively.
