A research group led by Professor Seigo Tarucha (Graduate School of Engineering) has succeeded in generating and detecting correlated photon-electron pairs using entangled photon pairs. This achievement is the first demonstration that quantum entanglement of different types of fundamental particles can be generated from entangled photon pairs. It is expected to be applied to quantum repeaters. The paper was published in Scientific Reports on December 5, 2012.
