Professor Seigo Tarucha (Graduate School of Engineering) and Project Associate Professor Michihisa Yamamoto have succeeded in demonstrating for the first time that the phase change of electron waves reflects the internal structure of artificial atoms. This was verified by precise phase measurements using a two-path interferometer developed and improved by the team. The research is expected to be applied to the elucidation of new physical phenomena and to quantum information devices such as quantum bits by controlling the phase of electron waves. This paper was published in Nature Communications on 22 November.
