Professor Akira Furusawa and his colleagues have succeeded in building the heart of quantum teleportation – the generation and detection of quantum entanglement – on a single chip. The chip is 1/10,000th the size of the conventional experimental equipment, which is built on a surface plate, paving the way for the practical use of quantum computers in the future. The paper was published in the electronic edition of Nature Photonics on 30 March (UK time).
