Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa has received the 2023 Balthasar van der Pol Gold Medal. The award was established in 1963 by the Union Radio Science International (URSI) in commemoration of the late Dr. Balthasar van der Pol, and is the highest rank of the URSI Awards. The award is given once every three years. Prof. Arakawa was presented the award at the URSI General Assembly held in Sapporo, Japan, on Sunday, August 20, for his pioneering contributions to the advancement of quantum dot lasers.
