Professor Takao Someya will receive the 65th Fujihara Award. The Fujihara Foundation of Science (President: Masatoshi Kaku, Chairman of Oji Holdings) announced the news on May 23. Visiting Senior Scientist Shigeru Kuratani of RIKEN will also receive the prize at the same time as Professor Someya. The reason for Professor Someya’s award is his pioneering work on “electronic skin,” a thin, soft plastic with sensors and electronic circuits on it. The Fujihara Prize honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology in Japan, and the award ceremony will be held in Tokyo on June 17, in honor of the birthday of the foundation’s founder, Ginjiro Fujihara.
