An international research team led by Professor Takao Someya (RIKEN Chief Scientist) and Kenjiro Fukuda (RIKEN Full-time Research Scientist) has developed an ultra-thin organic solar cell with a high energy conversion efficiency of 13% and long-term storage stability of less than 5% degradation after 3000 hours of storage in air. This is approximately 1.2 times higher energy conversion efficiency and 15 times higher long-term storage stability than the previous best value. It is expected to be used as a power source for sensors and actuators for wearable electronics and soft robots.
